What's Up SETX is a free community newsletter covering Southeast Texas. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to send you the newsletter and make it better. This page explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What We Collect
- Email address. When you subscribe through a form on this site or one of our signup links, your email address is collected and stored by Beehiiv, the newsletter platform that delivers What's Up SETX.
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use this website — pages visited, general location, device type, and how you found us. Google Analytics sets cookies to do this. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally to us.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested.
How We Use It
We use your email address to send you the What's Up SETX newsletter — nothing else. We use analytics data to see which stories and pages resonate so we can improve what we publish. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not send your information to data brokers.
Sharing
We never sell your personal information. It is shared only with the service providers that make the newsletter work:
- Beehiiv — stores subscriber emails and sends the newsletter on our behalf.
- Google — processes website analytics through Google Analytics.
Both act as processors under their own privacy policies. Beyond that, we would disclose information only if required by law.
Unsubscribing
Every edition of the newsletter includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click removes you from the list — no forms, no questions. You can also email us at info@whatsupsetx.com and we'll remove you manually.
Cookies
This site uses cookies set by Google Analytics to measure site usage. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site works fine without them.
Third-Party Links
Our newsletter and website link out to local businesses, event pages, and other sites we don't control. Their privacy practices are their own — check their policies if you have questions.
Children's Privacy
What's Up SETX is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we'll remove the address.
Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the effective date above. Meaningful changes will be noted in the newsletter.
